Business systems are examples of dynamic and evolving complexity marked by change at all levels (individual, team, organizational, national, and global). The system is non-linear, non-Gaussian, with adaptive, power law distributions resting at equilibrium only temporarily affected by "creative destructions" occurring when paradigms shift resulting in different and similar elements in a non-ergodic state. The rational view of business is replaced by realization that uncertainty exists and the best we can do is approximate risks. In spite of limitations, we attempt to make environments intelligible, creating institutions which are affected by innovation and change, upsetting the short-lived existing equilibrium.
